In December 2005, he was traded by the Angels to the Giants for Edgardo Alfonzo. Seven of the American League's 1937 All-Star players, from left to right Lou Gehrig, Joe Cronin, Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Charlie Gehringer, Jimmie Foxx, and Hank Greenberg. The Yankees retired Jackson's uniform number 44 on August 14, 1993, shortly after his induction into the Hall of Fame. He is one of only ten MLB players to have their numbers retired by more than one team and one of only five to have different numbers retired by two MLB teams. In an inverse situation, on July 19, 1977, Jackson was signing autographs for fans after the conclusion of the 1977 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, held at Yankee Stadium that year, in the stadium parking lot.

On June 10, Judge hit a home run that had an exit velocity of 121.1 miles per hour (194.9 km/h), again setting a new record for the hardest measured by Statcast. The following day, Judge went 4-for-4 with two home runs; one of the home runs traveled 495 feet , making it the longest home run hit in the 2017 season. In 1983, the Pine Tar Incident involving George Brett occurred; Brett's go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of the game was overturned for his bat having too much pine tar, resulting in him furiously charging out of the dugout. In Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS, Derek Jeter hit a fly ball to right-field that was interfered with by fan Jeffrey Maier but ruled a home run. In Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, Aaron Boone hit an extra-inning "walk-off" home run to send the Yankees to the World Series. On August 6, 2007, Alex Rodriguez hit his 500th home run against the Kansas City Royals at the Stadium.

The Yankees also won their first World Series during the Stadium's inaugural season. Future Yankee manager Casey Stengel hit the first post-season home run in stadium history while playing with the opposing New York Giants. The Yankees accomplished this feat yet again in the New Yankee Stadium in the 2009 World Series. In 2000, he had 35 home runs and a career-high .544 slugging percentage, and was ninth in the league in sacrifice flies .

June 18 – Clayton Kershaw strikes out a career-high 15 as he pitches his first career no-hitter against the Colorado Rockies, 8–0, at Dodger Stadium, allowing his only baserunner on a throwing error by shortstop Hanley Ramírez. Kershaw gives the Los Angeles Dodgers the second no-hitter in the majors this season. On May 25, Josh Beckett hurls one against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.
